Super Bowl Central Blog

By James Alder, About.com Guide to Football

We've yet to make official our prediction for Super Bowl XLIII, but already, as hard as it is to believe, there's talk about who will win in 2010. In fact, odds have already been released by Las Vegas Sports Consultants for next year's big game. The New England Patriots didn't even make the playoffs this year, but it should come as no surprise that they are being picked by odds makers to win Super Bowl XLIV. All this seems a bit premature, of course, considering we have no idea how free agency or the NFL Draft are going to play out.

But hey, if you have to pick a team at this point, why not New England? After all, they should have quarterback Tom Brady back to lead what is relatively the same team that went 16-0 during the 2007 season. So, regardless of who wins this year between the Arizona Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers, it's tough to argue that either should be favored over a Patriots team with a healthy Tom Brady at quarterback.

The big question, though, is, will Brady be completely healthy when the 2009 season begins? The former Most Valuable Player suffered a very serious knee injury during week one of the 2008 season and then went through complications involving infections following surgery.

Apparently Las Vegas thinks Brady will be relatively healthy -- or they have a lot of faith in Matt Cassel -- since they have installed the Pats as 6-1 favorites to win the NFL championship in 2010. The Steelers follow them up with 7-1 odds and the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts are listed at 8-1.

Bringing up the rear is no one's surprise in the Detroit Lions, who are listed at 150-1.

Following is a complete list of odds for each NFL team:

New England Patriots - 6/1
Pittsburgh Steelers - 7/1
New York Giants - 8/1
Indianapolis Colts - 8/1
Dallas Cowboys - 9/1
